ABOUT US

Our Background

HARVEST is a nonprofit organization specializing in bringing together the community through our Lansdowne based, 24/7 porch pantry. We rely on a network of organizations focused on rescuing safe and usable food that might otherwise go to waste and distributing it through our porch pantry. This helps the environment and provides much-needed support to community members and their families who might otherwise face food insecurity.

Projects

Future HARVEST Initiatives Here's a breakdown of what each of these components might involve: Food Insecurity refers to a lack of consistent access to nutritious and sufficient food. HARVEST will focus on initiatives such as community gardens, food banks, meal programs, and educational campaigns to raise awareness about healthy eating and budgeting. Professional Underemployment: Professional underemployment occurs when individuals work in jobs below their skill and education levels. HARVEST could offer training and skill development programs, career counseling, and business partnerships to create pathways for individuals to find meaningful and fulfilling employment that aligns with their qualifications. Employer Involvement: Engaging employers in the initiative is crucial. HARVEST might work with local businesses to create job opportunities, internships, and mentorship programs. Collaborating with employers ensures job openings are suitable for program participants and helps create a supportive ecosystem for addressing professional underemployment. To succeed in these efforts, HARVEST will consider the following strategies: Community Collaboration: Partnering with local communities, nonprofits, government agencies, and businesses can enhance the reach and impact of the initiatives. Education and Training: Providing access to education and training programs that improve employability and professional skills can empower individuals to secure better job opportunities. Data and Assessment: Regularly measuring and assessing the impact of the initiatives can help refine strategies and allocate resources effectively. Advocacy and Awareness: Raising awareness about food insecurity and professional underemployment through advocacy and public campaigns can encourage broader community support and engagement. Sustainability: Ensuring the long-term sustainability of the initiatives through funding, partnerships, and organizational support is crucial for lasting impact. HARVEST's holistic approach has the potential to create a positive feedback loop where improvements in food security, employment opportunities, and employer engagement reinforce and amplify each other, leading to a more resilient and thriving community. In partnership with our community and outside agencies, HARVEST will adapt its strategies based on local needs, resources, and feedback to maximize its effectiveness in addressing these interconnected challenges.

Future Goals

Some of our goals for the future include: Community Workshops: Offer workshops on cooking, nutrition, gardening, budgeting, and other life skills. These workshops can empower individuals to make healthier choices and become more self-sufficient. Collaborations with Local Businesses: Partner with local businesses and organizations to create a support network. This could include collaborating on fundraising events, donation drives, or other initiatives that benefit the community and HARVEST.. Volunteer Opportunities: Provide opportunities for community members to get involved as volunteers. This can help strengthen the community's sense of belonging and ownership while expanding our organization's reach. Partnerships with Educational Institutions: Work with schools, colleges, or universities to develop educational programs that focus on food waste reduction, sustainability, and community development. Advocacy and Awareness: Raise awareness about the issue of food waste and its environmental impact. Advocate for policies and practices that encourage food donation and redistribution and sustainable food production and consumption. Collaborative Events: Organize community events, such as food fairs, picnics, or markets, where individuals can come together to share food, resources, and experiences. Online Presence: Maintain an active online presence through social media platforms and our website. Share success stories, volunteer opportunities, and educational resources to engage the community and attract potential supporters. Feedback and Evaluation: Regularly gather feedback from the community to assess our programs' impact and identify improvement areas. We aim to tailor our initiatives to better meet our community's needs.
